David Sorcher's PhotoWorld: People's Climate March

On Sunday, September 21, 2014 the People's Climate March became the largest environmental march ever, drawing 400,000 people into the streets of New York City to demand that world leaders begin to make real advances in stemming the tide of global warming. Hopefully you will forgive my slow posting of these images. I decided only a week before that i would really regret not documenting this historic event and did indeed need to be there. I was unable to find a media outlet in that short time and since i was not working on deadline and returned home to both paying work that took priority and an out of town wedding to attend the following weekend, finding the time to edit the nearly one thousand frames i shot that day was difficult at best. But this work is a labor of love…and hope. Still i don't feel that this gallery can possibly convey the scale and scope of this march or the determination and commitment of so many of those in attendance. Certainly history was made this day. What real effects the march might have remain to be seen, but the people, both here and in similar demonstrations around the world, have spoken. May our voices be heard…

I did remain in NYC for Monday's Flood Wall Street civil disobedience sit-down protest. About 3000 protesters had hoped to disrupted the stock exchange, though police sealed that off pretty well and the demonstration took place at the bottom end of Broadway around the famous and symbolic Wall Street bull. I will post these images in my next entry.
