Concours d'Elegance 2016

Here's my director's cut from this years Concours d'Elegance, an annual car show that takes place at Ault Park in Cincinnati every June. I have always been a lover of vintage vehicles and this show presents some of the finest examples of the automotive arts to be seen anywhere. While i probably will never have the funds nor the inclination to collect cars on this level i can still "collect" photographically and satisfy both my urges to be around these awesome machines and make beautiful images of them at the same time.
While i shot this show more broadly on assignment i have focussed more on design details for this gallery with a special attention on hood ornament art. I hope you enjoy them as much as i do.

Concours d'Elegance...The Details

It's always a joy when passions meet at a crossroads, in this case my love of photography and classic cars. I attended the 38th Concours d'Elegance in Ault Park just recently and really just had a blast. As a long time Hot Wheels collector i have been able to afford some scaled down, die cast models of some of these automobiles, but there is nothing like seeing the real thing up close and personal. Here are some of my favorite shots of the day, mostly ones that find the beauty in the details.

Garage Brewed Motorcycles

I don't often post my otherwise published event photograph on this blog unless something ends up in an end of the year "best of" entry, but now and again i shoot an event that doesn't get the kind of treatment in the publication that i would like to see  presented. Such is the case with the Garage Brewed Motorcycle Show, an annual event at one of my favorite local breweries, Rhinegeist. I've done similar "director's cuts" with my coverage of the classic car show Concours d'Elegance, mostly because the publications i was shooting these events for are (understandably) far more interested in photos of the attendees than the objects, but for my own proclivities i just can't help myself from focussing of the beauty of the machines.
Frankly, i must admit that i don't ride myself nor do i have any real desire to do so at any time in the future, but i have always loved the machines themselves along with the culture and folklore attached. Symbols of freedom, raw power, sexuality and rugged individualism abound. Storied legends of infamous biker gangs living hard and fast on the outside of the law feed a certain romanticism on biker culture and our love of the "bad boy". But as the saying goes, we're not a gang, we're a club!
