Here it is the end of February already and i still have not posted any "best of" galleries of 2016. I suppose i am not obliged really, but it has been a tradition since i began the blog back in 2013. In the past i have ambitiously put out both a general favorites posting as well as one dedicated just to music photography. I believe one year i even did a separate one for food shots.
Well...i'm just not sure i will get to it this year, but i do want to present 2016 in a way that doesn't always find a timely showing and present to you my iYear, that is to say, my year through cell phone photography. I'm still not using this medium in the generally popularized way in that i don't Instagram or post a daily (or even weekly) iPhoto and will often sit on an image for months before revisiting and/or re-visioning it. Last spring i coined the term Insta-nots, as they rarely appear in social medium in any immediate timeframe of their taking, unlike the vast majority of billions of twitted, facebooked and instagramed images published every day. I can't really say how or if that makes them different, it's simply my process.
iPhonography acts as a form of visual stream of consciousness for me. These are rarely images that i take with much forethought or intention, but rather compositions that strike me as i go about my day to day activities, doing the grocery shopping, walking to the coffee shop, running an errand or grabbing a hammer from the basement. They are the transient things that grab me, fleeting moments of light and shadow that i react to rather than think about, at least not until after the fact of their passing. In many ways it leads me back to what the process of photography was originally about for me when i first picked up a camera.
