I suppose i must be prone to contradiction. After blogging just a few days ago about how i generally post galleries from single day adventures (saving "best of" entries for end of the year wrap-ups) here i am presenting a collection of photographs taken over the past couple of years from Green Bay. I guess my last post on Gaff Point, where i mused about creating a coffee table book from my last 15 years of hiking on that trail, got me thinking about gathering images together from other locations with similar intent. I mean, think big or go home, right? I can envision an entire series of photo books dedicated to these various South Shore gems. Or dream anyway.
One thing i find amazing about all these nearby shoreline spots i frequent is that in spite of their obvious similarities they all have their own very distinct personalities. The subject matter i focus on is usually very much the same from place to place; the flora and fauna, rock, sand, beach wood and ocean, as well of all the wonders the tide sees fit to wash ashore. But even on the relatively short stretch of coast that holds some of my favorite haunts, Cherry Hill, Green Bay, Sperry's Beach, Risser's Beach and Crescent Beach each display their own very unique character to my eye. Each can hold its own audience in its own way and so are deserving of individual presentations.
With that in mind i would like to draw that attention now to Green Bay. I haven't had quite the same amount of time here as i have with Gaff Point, but since moving just a few kilometers away it has become one of my favorite places to explore. I may be playing it a little loose with the name as the oceanfront community of Green Bay is really just my entry point for this particular photogenic wonderland. I tend to follow the shoreline along in a southwesterly direction towards Broad Cove, but have only hiked as far as Green Point Pond. Though one day soon i intend to follow the coast all the way to the next community. Remnants of the long unused Green Bay Road do still persist at least as far as my range has taken me up til now, so perhaps my name for this site may well be appropriate for all the area i have covered so far.
