If you get the literary/film reference to this post's title you may wonder why i have chosen such a depressing story title to tag upon images of such natural maritime beauty. The story of On the Beach is a post-apocalyptic tale detailing the lives of a group of people awaiting the arrival of deadly radiation in the last safe haven on earth, a beach in remote Australia.
While i do not wish to draw any real connection to Hirtle's Beach in Nova Scotia and such an end of the world scenario, when i am lost on this beach (and i do indeed get "lost" on it every time i visit) it seems to me to be one of the last safe places left in a world gone generally mad. And if they ever really do drop the "Big One", this is the place i would most likely run to if i could, to await those final days.
