Of course any place worth getting to takes at least a little bit of work. Not that i made my wife do all of it. This row boat uses two sets of oars, but i had to stop rowing for just a moment to capture my girl in action.

We arrived at the island just in time to catch the sunset. It had been raining in the morning, but by this time there was barely a cloud in the sky. However, by the time we rowed back to "The Point" the next morning a new front was moving in so we couldn't have asked for a better magic weather window for our island adventure.

The last rays of the sun dapple the cabin's interior, soon to be replaced by oil lamps and candles.

I've done so little long exposure night photography and have never felt very successful with it so i thought this would be a fine opportunity to give it another go. I finally have a wireless remote for my shutter release so i can do bulb exposures. I had some fun here painting in some extra exposure with an LED flashlight. I aimed it at different areas on the cabin porch adding a second or two of exposure here and there. I like the warm/cool contrast created by the blue light of the LED and the yellow/orange of the interior oil lamps.

For better or for worse photography soon gave way to a bottle of 12 year old Glenlivet. Yeah, maybe i shouldn't have traded single shot camera mode for single malt scotch, but hey, i was on vacation after all. ;-)
We'll explore the beautiful light of morning in Pt. 2 tomorrow...
